So It Goes x Clara Luciani

So It Goes x Clara Luciani

I met Clara Luciani in Paris in the autumn of 2013, where she had just finished touring with the French rock band La Femme. Clara had moved from Marseille her hometown after meeting Marlon Magnee, where he asked her to join the band as a singer. At the time, Clara had been studying History of Art and the rose tinted world of Paris seemed like a much-needed breath of fresh air for the fledgling musician.

If French actress Anna Karina and musician Francois Hardy had a lovechild, it would be Clara. A dynamic mixture of melancholy, film noir and the 1960s, Clara seamlessly transitioned to a Parisian star in the making and by the time she was 24, she was offered her own solo project.

Since then, she has toured with French star Benjamin Biolay and has become a fashion muse for Chloe, all within a blink of eye.

Her debut single ‘Pleure Clara, pleure’ came out last month to much acclaim and preempts her first album, Monster of Love which she wrote in a stream of grief after a breakup and saw the project as an artistic exorcism. The EP, which was released on April 28th, vibrates a raw and desperate energy filled with a loneliness one can truly identify with at times, then transitions into a rebirth with a solar force to give the audience a hopeful and triumphant ending.

My first EP was out on the 28th of April and I am super excited for it!!

What was it like touring with Benjamin Biolay?

I've been listening to his music for years, so it was very emotional at first. He is a very kind person and I learned a lot from this solo tour. I felt like a conqueror, in front of a crowd every night seducing people for whom I was a perfect unknown.

If you were President for the day what would you do for mankind?

I would force people to create. They could do what they would like of course: paint, sing, play comedy, write ... But I'm sure that by forcing them to create something they would exorcise their anger and sorrow and that the world would go much better.
