Arthur Yates: New Works
Until 30 October, Saatchi Gallery, King's Road, London SW3 4RY
Arthur Yates' 'New Works' address every creative's fear - the blank page. A blank canvas can be an insurmountable challenge, so Yates turned to the collective anonymous talents of the internet to get him started. He collected hundreds of artworks from online contributors based on four simple directives: must be hand drawn in pencil; must be a completely random object or item; must not be traced; must be drawn from sight or memory. The resulting compositions bring to mind the mundanity of a faded wallpaper, or of the multilayered images glimpsed through the peeling scraps of an old billboard ad.
